Thomson Reuters Settles Class Action Unfair Competition Claim for $27 Million
Cat Brooks, et al. v. Thomson Reuters Corporation (USDC Northern District of California no. 3:21-cv-01418-EMC): On October 11, 2024 Thomson Reuters agreed to the terms of a $27 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging a variety of claims including improper data collection of hundreds of millions of people through it’s CLEAR platform; the subsequent sales of such records; unfair competition and unjust enrichment at the class’s expense. Defendant denied all claims, but agreed to the terms of the settlement to resolve the class action matter for $27 million, which included attorney’s fees, costs and administration expenses.
