Employment Law
Amy Ayers, et al. v. Sacramento Public Utilities District: (Sacramento County Super Ct. No. 34-2022-00313429): On November 7, 2024 a jury entered a verdict of $6.2 million in favor of four plaintiffs employed by the Sacramento Public Utilities District who alleged race based discrimination in their underlying law suit. Plaintiffs alleged that they were passed over for promotions based on their race, in favor of white candidates who were less qualified than they were. Plaintiffs further alleged that actions were supervised by Casey Fallon, the director of procurement division for Sacramento Public Utilities District, and that Fallon regularly manipulated the involved processes to the plaintiffs’ detriment. Prior to trial, all four plaintiffs made CCP 998 offers in the amount of $999,999. Defendant did not accept nor provide any counter-offers prior to the $6.2 million verdict. Plaintiffs were represented by Mark E. Brenner and the Law Office of Michael L. Justice. Defendant was represented by Porter Scott.
