Featured Verdict: Builder Owner Hit With $12.3 Million Verdict in Premises Liability Case

John Painter, et al. v. Sean Amin, et al. (Stanislau County Super Ct. No. 9000704): On October 17, 2023 a jury awarded plaintiff John Painter a $12.3 million verdict related to a case where he was injured while performing work on a commercial building owned by defendant Sean Amin. Plaintiff was working on an attached ladder about 15 feet from the ground, when the ladder pulled loose, causing him to fall to the ground, sustaining physical injuries to his foot, hand and traumatic brain injury. Plaintiff alleged that the ladder was not mounted to any structural support, violating both building-code and Cal-Osha regulations. Defendant Sean Amin was the sole remaining defendant at the time the jury rendered their verdict of $12.3 million. Plaintiff was represented by the Law Office of Lawrence M. Knapp. Defendant was represented by Wayte & Carruth LLP.
