Woodman-Pena, et al. v. Gardella, et al. (Santa Cruz Super Ct. No. 18CV02187): On February 11, 2021 the court entered a bench verdict in the amount of $189,519 in favor of plaintiffs in a wage and hour matter. Plaintiffs, a general manager and housekeeper alleged that they were improperly required to remain on the premises of Edgewater Beach Inn & suites, most hours of the night and day. They additionally alleged that they were required to remain on-call after hours and were expected to perform work duties after the business was closed. Lastly, plaintiff Kayla Staats alleged that she was not paid appropriate wages, which ultimately led to her resignation. The court granted $189,519 in damages to plaintiffs, and an additional sum of $691,358.19 in attorneys fees. Plaintiff was represented by the Law Offices of Tanya Gomerman.
