Monsanto Hit with $332 Million Nuclear Verdict in Toxic Tort Action
Mike Dennis v. Monsanto Company, et al. (San Diego Super Ct. No. 37-2021-00047326-CU-PO-NC): On March 8, 2024 defendant Monsanto Company was hit with a $332 million verdict in a case where the plaintiff Mike Dennis alleged that he contracted cancer after being exposed to chemicals contained Roundup weed killer. Plaintiff alleged that Roundup contained glyphosate, which he was exposed to when using Roundup weed killer, and that defendant withheld this information from the public in order to preserve sales. Defendant argued that glyphosate does not pose any health risks. On April 8, 2024 the judgment was amended to a total verdict of $28.5 million after post-trial motions. Plaintiff was represented by Clark, Love & Hutson PLLC. Defendant was represented by Evans, Fears & Schuttert LLP.
