U-Haul Company of California Hit With $21.3 Million Verdict Regarding Head-On Accident Caused by Employee

Senopn Roman, et al. v. U-Haul Company of California, Et al. (Los Angeles Super Ct. No. 21AVCV00316): On March 2, 2023, a jury returned a verdict of $21.3 million against defendant U-Haul Company of California concerning a head-on accident caused by U-Haul employee Timothy W. South. On July 21, 2010, South was involved in a head-on accident after trying to pass other vehicles on the wrong side of a two-way road, striking plaintiff Senon Roman’s vehicle in the process. Plaintiff suffered catastrophic injuries including a fractured skull, fractured neck, fractured knee and elbow. Plaintiff’s children were also in the car at the time and were helicoptered to a hospital for treatment. The parties exchanged a series of 998 offers prior to jury deliberation with the highest offer from defendant being $2.5 million. Deliberations took one day before the $21.3 million verdict was entered in favor of Plaintiffs. Plaintiffs were represented by the Law Office of Ted B. Wacker and the Law Offices of Haytham Faraj.
