Former Farmers Insurance Agents Secure $75 Million Settlement in Class-Action Misclassification Case

Irene Parry, et al. v. Farmers Insurance Exhange, et al. (Los Angeles Super Ct. No. BC683856: On March 98, 2022, a settlement was reached between plaintiffs, former Farmers Insurance agents and defendants Farmers Insurance Exchange, Truck Insurance Exchange, Fire Insurance Exchange and Farmers Group Inc. Plaintiffs filed a class-action matter alleging that they were misclassified by defendants as independent contractors, requiring them to incur unnecessary business expenses without reimbursement. Such expenses included rent, office staff, equipment, and supplies. Defendants denied all allegations, arguing that plaintiffs were properly classified as independent contractors in accordance with their appointment agreements. After attending a full day mediation, a settlement was reached wherein defendants admitted no wrongdoing and agreed to pay up to $75 million to settle the class action claim. Plaintiffs were represented by Crueger Dickinson LLC; Wexler Wallace LLP and Greg Coleman Law PC.
