Jessica Vu v. 2447 Pacific Coast Highway, LLC, et al. (Los Angeles Super Ct. No. BC650966): On April 22, 2022 a jury entered a $12.2 million verdict in favor of Jessica Vu, a counselor for autistic children after she suffered a traumatic brain injury on April 29, 2016 in a building she worked in. On the evening of the incident, a cleaning crew hired by defendant 2447 Pacific Coast Highway, LLC was cleaning the carpets in the building that plaintiff was in. On her way to her car that evening. Plaintiff slipped and fell on a wet section of carpet leading into a stairwell, resulting in her falling and hitting her hit on the concrete steps. Plaintiff alleged that she suffered a traumatic brain injury from the incident, experiencing cognitive difficulties and memory loss that made it impossible for her to continue working. Plaintiff further alleged she would continue to suffer from these issues for the next 50 years. Defendant contended that the carpet where plaintiff slipped on was properly cleaned and dry at the time, and that plaintiff mis-stepped on the top of the stairs. Defendant further argued that the evidence presented at trial did not demonstrate that Plaintiff suffered from a traumatic brain injury, and denied all allegations.
