Featured Verdict: 6 Million Dollar Verdict Against Lyft
Daub, et al. v. Lyft, et al. (Sacramento County Super Ct. No. 34-2018-00234895-CU-PO-GDS): On Dec 6, 2021, a jury entered a $6 million verdict against defendant Lyft and in favor of the parents of a Lyft passenger who was killed in an auto accident that occurred on the 99 freeway. Wyatt Zmrrzel, a passenger being transported by Lyft driver Rafiulluh Amiri, was killed in a collision when the driver attempted to cross the southbound 99 lanes from the center median separating the north and southbound lanes. Plaintiffs argued that Amiri acted negligently in his operation of the vehicle that decedent was being transported in. Defendants argued that the driver that struck Amiri’s car should be apportioned liability, because it was traveling in excess of the 65 mph speed limit at the time. Plaintiffs were represented by Penney & Associates.
